The term was used to explain the intricate nature of the music. Though the music is very complex, it does not quite fit officially under the "Math Metal" label, which is why Alternative Metal has been used to more accurately describe the sound. The band often showcases Ryan Martinie's funky bass playing as well as McDonough's use of alternating between single and double bass pedal drumming. In addition, the guitar playing of Greg Tribbett is very layered and unorthodox with its odd-meter timings, which helps in giving life to Chad Gray's vocals. Biography Established in 1996, Mudvayne now consists of Chad Gray (Kud, Chüd) on vocals, Greg Tribbett (Gurrg, Güüg) on guitar, Ryan Martinie (Ryknow, Rü-D) on bass, and Matthew McDonough (sPaG, Spüg) on drums. In their biggest album, L.D. 50, "The overall theme of the album reflects and embodies ideas about the evolution of consciousness, transformation, and the risks involved in experimenting with things that can change a person's point of view, internally and externally," says drummer Spag. After the re-release of Kill I Oughta, now known as The Beginning of All Things To End, the band members changed their pseudonyms to the ones listed second in the parentheses (example Kud, Chüd etc)... Since the release of Lost and Found in April 2005, Mudvayne has discontinued the use of all psuedonyms and now performs under their real names. Mudvayne performed on the Ozzfest 2005 tour. Their song "Happy" was the official theme song of WWE's Vengeance pay-per-view event in June 2005. (2005) Forget To Remember (2005) The video for the band's first single, Dig, Kicks off with a '2001: A Space Oddessey'like feel, starting with a baby womb/cocoon. The song is all about change and reflects our sci-fi proclivities to that idea and 2001- so enjoy our monolithic effort". With it set in a white room and features the band playing in different angles. At certain points, the camera will cut to scenes of the band in a black room, covered in mud and tangled in wet cables that seem to hang from the ceiling. The songs ends with the a blackened life of the once living/growing baby. Death Blooms was apparently inspired by Chad Gray's grandmother, who was suffering from a terminal illness and wanted to die, but the family kept her alive against her will. In the clip it shows a older person taking their life. There are two versions to the Not Falling video. The first features the bands as aliens emerging from cocoons. The second is set in a snow covered field, with the four members playing in a triangle (with Chad in the center, forming their logo) and focusing on a little girl with an orb. The World So Cold video is straightforward, showing the band playing while showing situations in which people put themselves through situations where they feel bad for doing nothing wrong. This was the first video, besides the second version of Not Falling, to include the entire band without the makeup, as this was the time that they dropped their pseudonyms. The Determined video shows the band playing onstage at a concert. There are also some shots of the crowd singing along, with few shots of a mosh pit near the front of the crowd. The Happy? video basically shows the band playing in an open field. Showing frequent shots of a monarch butterfly landing on various pieces of equipment, e.g the cymbals on the drumset, the microphones, etc. Near the end of the video, the butterfly is not seen again when a tornado hits. Mudvayne continues playing, until finally the storm clears up just as the song finishes, and the butterfly is seen again as it flies away. This is an obvious allusion to the Butterfly Effect theory where as a butterfly flapping its wings in South America (or anywhere) may possisibly start the vibration that begins the breeze that eventually builds into a hurricane (or a tornado, in this case). The graphics on the CD support that this is the main concept to the album. Forget to Remember initially just shows Chad sitting alone in a corner of a small room. Then he gets up and a timer above a door or something begins ticking down from 3:30. While he's singing the video shows clips from the upcoming movie Saw 2, and the camera pans around the room to reveal Ryan, Greg and Matt sitting in the room as well. When the chorus begins they've got their instruments and are playing. In the movie, the victims are trapped in a room and they are forced to solve a puzzle in order to live.
